Many years ago, when I signed up to take an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Instructor class, the organization providing the training told me that I need to find a Training Center to align with. What? What does that mean?
In order to participate in an AHA Instructor class or teach AHA certification classes, you must be aligned with an AHA Training Center. Not only did the company that I signed up with not help me understand, they were teaching instructor classes but not allowing instructors to align with them.
I started Advanced Professional Healthcare Education LLC (APHE), in 2007 in Delafield, WI, where we are still based. Over 17 years, over 1,000 instructors and over 150,000 students later, we are an authorized AHA Training Center (TC). We provide training primarily in Wisconsin and the Midwest but instructors from over 30 states teach classes through our organization.
We understand how difficult the health and safety industry can be to navigate. We understand that becoming a certified instructor and aligning with a TC can be intimidating or even overwhelming. We especially understand that aligning with the right TC is critical to an AHA instructor’s success.
When you align with APHE Training Center, you are joining a true team. Our organization is structured so every aligned instructor and instructor candidate has a single, clear point of contact. We provide instructors with support and guidance to ensure that you achieve your teaching goals. We believe in our Mission Statement and Core Values; this is how we treat each other and work together; this is how APHE TC has thrived and grown into one of the largest Training Centers in America.
To discuss alignment with APHE TC, please complete the form below. A member of our team will be in touch with you.
I look forward to meeting and working with you!

We use Laerdal Little Anne CPR manikins; however, our TC will accept any adult manikins that meet AHA's requirements for Instrumented Directed Feedback Devices, which monitor the rate and depth of compressions. Most manikins have a clicker (depth) and some have a light that turns green when the rate is adequate (rate). If your manikin is missing the rate monitoring, we can easily add this with wrist bands that students wear while practicing compressions.
*For non-certification classes, such as Family & Friends® CPR, manikins without feedback are allowed.
AHA does not require that mouth-to-mouth breathing be practiced in any of your classes. Either use Hands-Only CPR (Family & Friends® CPR) or Pocket Masks (Heartsaver® & BLS). AHA does requires that each student practice with a pocket mask. Since COVID, we recommend that each student has his or her own pocket mask in training. Pocket masks can be sanitized and reused. Each student should definitely have his or her own training valve, which is disposable.
Infant Manikins are only required if you are teaching infant CPR, which is not required in either Family & Friends® CPR or Heartsaver® CPR AED. Infant CPR is always required in BLS classes. For all manikins, please ensure that your student-to-manikin ratio does not exceed 3:1, which complies with AHA guidelines.
In 2020, AHA transitioned to Online Exams for BLS, ACLS and PALS classes, and to make delivery of these exams easier, we transitioned to digital documentation for all classes. At first, it seems like it will take more work, but our process actually saves you time. The short version:
